How to Keep Black Clothes Black: A Ritual for Dark Garments

Black is not a color, it's a statement.

But without precise care, obsidian crumbles into gray. Caring for your garments is a revolt against the throwaway culture.

Here are the rules for maintaining the depth of darkness in your T-shirts and hoodies.

  1. Turn inside out Friction is the enemy. By turning the garment inside out, you protect the fibers and print from the washing machine's mechanical wear. The outer layer should remain untouched.
  2. Cold as an ally Heat opens the cotton's pores and releases pigment. Never wash your black garments at more than 30°C. Higher temperatures are an unnecessary attack on the fabric's structure and color fastness.
  3. Liquid precision Exclusively use liquid detergent for dark textiles. Powdered detergents often leave residues that dull the surface. Avoid fabric softener; it breaks down the elasticity of the fibers and ruins the fit of hoods and cuffs.
  4. No tumble dryer The tumble dryer is a graveyard for black clothes. The extreme heat creates lint that reflects light, making the garment look faded. Always hang dry, but never in direct sunlight, as UV rays break down the color over time.
